Sunset from Stari grad above Kamnik

Stari grad offers such great views in almost all directions it's always worth climbing. Winter sunsets can be particularly colorful but also cold! Never forget gloves. ;)

Misty sunset from above Kamnik

I often climb the Špica hill above Kamnik, especially in the late afternoon to get in a nice sunset on top of some exercise. :) One day in early November the so-so day turned into an amazing orange-purple misty sunset.

Late afternoon around Kamnik

I often go for a walk across fields that lie between Kamnik and Podgorje; it's quiet and peaceful, and the views of the Kamnik Alps are great. And sometimes I get lucky with the weather. :)

Tunjice

Tunjice is a village only a few minutes' drive away from where I live but I never took photos of its picturesque church before. Until last weekend. :) My friend Piotr suggested going there for the sunset on a stormy June Saturday, and we arrived there after a rainy afternoon. The clouds were dramatic, the sun made an appearance for about a minute, just enough to take a picture or two of the sunlit church of St. Ana, and the clouds were chased around the mountain slopes by the wind. After sundown there was so much humidity in the air the lens needed to be wiped after every shot. But it was quite worth it. :)

First snow in Kamnik

After having a very warm October and hardly any fall colors, it snowed at the end of the month. While I love snow, I wasn't too thrilled about not having any autumn! :) But, to capture the unusual sight of green trees covered with snow I hiked the nearby Špica hill one afternoon to get some views of Kamnik. The views were foggy and the trail was slippery, and what I came away with were some cool pics and a bruised rib from a sudden fall when returning.

The road was ... interesting, to say the least!
There was a lot of leaves and even broken branches on the road to Stari grad hill.

Fog enveloped the hill I was headed to.

Lots of broken branches due to heavy wet snow.

The trail was extremely muddy and slippery.
The trail was muddy and slippery as hell.

Fall colors? :)
Most trees were still green.

The fog descended upon Kamnik and the sun only peeked through occasionally for a few seconds.

On the way down I was passed by a jogger.
A jogger.

Just as I reached the road again, the sun reappeared in this spectacular display of red glow.
Last minutes before the sunset were spectacular!

The rib still hurts more than a week later.

Snowy Kamnik

Snow at last! This winter had been exceptionally dry - with the exception of some heavy rain! But no snow... until yesterday. Only a few centimeters in Kamnik, but it was enough to blanket the town in soft whiteness, so in the afternoon, after work, I headed out for a quick spin around town to take a few shots.

First I went up the Šutna street...

Then I climbed the Mali grad hill.

Kamnik was at my feet.

Returning from the Mali grad hill I looked down the Šutna street toward the setting sun.

Then I climbed the Žale hill and took this photo from above the Kamnik train station looking toward Zaprice castle.
