I can't believe I haven't posted here in over a year. High time I remedied that! ;)
I spent a good week in Premantura, Croatia at the end of September, and apart from lying on the beach when it wasn't too windy, my days were spent exploring the area. First I visited Pula to take photos of its famous Roman amphitheater. The afternoon was cloudy and not that exciting.
But then the sky got interesting.
I quickly ran back to the arena, went in and ran around like crazy finding good vantage points.
After an intense half hour I returned to the port where the sky was still quite dramatic:
I love the sea. I love the beach. I love the salty sea air. I'd spend three months a year at the seaside if I could. Sadly, I haven't really spent much time at the beach in the past few years for various reasons. This year it wasn't until September that we could finally take the time and head to one of our favorite destinations, Island Krk in Croatia. We traveled with our half-made camper van and based ourselves at the campground in Stara Baška but drove to a desolate beach near Punat almost every day. I still had to work, but I got to lie on the beach every day, swim, relax, do crosswords and sudoku, and I actually read 4 books! Bliss. These 9 days weren't about photography at all, but I had my little camera with me almost everywhere and snapped away when the mood struck.

I think I'll go back before the summer is completely over. ;)
I had just returned from the US, overwhelmed by the experience and the number of photos I took, and before I could catch my breath, I was off to Zermatt, Switzerland for 4 days to do some skiing and hiking, and then the Croatian beach for 3 days to just lie on the beach. :) Processing photos had to wait. But before I start with too many blog posts about America, I'll quickly show a few photos I took one evening at the beach. The wispy clouds in the afternoon were a good indication the sunset would be spectacular. And it didn't disappoint!
After a busy month of remodeling our living room and barely sweeping away all the dust that covered the whole house, I've spent this Sunday afternoon packing for my trip to the USA tomorrow. It's only three weeks, so don't get too excited. :) In the mean time, there are a few photos from May that I still haven't posted: a day in Piran, a beautiful town on the Adriatic coast, running from the rain and only partly succeeding. At least the sky was dramatic. :) But in the end we got totally soaked.
One late April afternoon after work we drove to the Adriatic coast. We walked along the cliffs near Strunjan. I love that path. It goes through leafy bushes, high above the sea, and the views open up every now and then so you can admire the Piran church in the distance. And then pine trees and the famous cross. And the Moon Bay (Mesečev zaliv). And just as the light got sweeter and we descended down to the beach, the sun hid behind the clouds. Argh.
We waited for some time but it didn't look like the sun was coming back, so I took a couple of long-exposure shots - handheld! :) And then we went back. Eating ice-cream we sat on the beach for a while, and while cursing for not bringing my tripod with me I found a chair to put my camera on for these shots.
