A winter morning in Bohinj

I needed to take a really good photo for an on-going photo contest on one of the photography forums. As landscapes are my strong suit, I chose Bohinj, the ever beautiful jewel amidst the Julian Alps. After getting up in the middle of the night I drove there and was met by a not so beautiful sunrise, or should I say no sunrise at all as there were clouds in the east.


Realizing there would be no dramatic sweeping views, I concentrated on the reflections:


Mildly disappointed and freezing I headed to a nearby hotel for a cup of coffee. An hour later or so when most of the clouds had dissipated, I returned to the lake and began taking photos with more fervor.




And the photo I entered into the contest was this one. It made it into top ten and got me into the grand finale. :)

Velika planina in B&W

Velika planina is a place I really like returning to. Regardless of the season, there is always something special about it. Or maybe I'm just biased because it's my home mountain. :)
The valley had been enveloped in fog for days, and climbing above it was pure bliss. In the afternoon the clouds started to roll in, but the sun persevered until the peaceful end of the day.
I don't often do B&W, but these photos just begged to be converted.

Zbilje Lake and Jamnik

On November 1 the weather was glorious - sunny and warm. It was All Saints' Day, but it would almost be a sin to only visit the local cemetery so I decided to go and take a few photos of the fall foliage.
First I drove to Zbilje Lake, which glistened yellow and orange.



After driving around for a while I ended up on Jamnik, a hill rising above the town of Kropa which has spectacular views of Gorenjska, the Kamnik Alps and the Karavanke range. And the chapel there is very photogenic too. :)

Frosty morning

One morning last week I looked out the window in the morning and saw a magical sight: everything was covered in frost and sun rays were fighting to penetrate the mists. I grabbed my camera and walked to the fields behind my apartment building. Ah, advantages of living in a small town! :))

Around Kamnik on a fall day

Most leaves had fallen. The red carpets in the woods moved from the canopies to the ground. Lone exceptions make your eyes go wide though, such as a bright green fern surrounded by fading orange maple leaves, or a few yellow leaves that haven't abandoned their branches yet.



And then a short hike to the top of Stari grad above Kamnik revealed even more fall colors:


The views were fantastic, as usual. The later it got, the sweeter the light was.
